A contemporary music lover, Paula has also had the honour of performing the world premier of the jazz cantata “He mirat aquesta terra” by Ricard Gili with texts by S. Espriu, accompanied by La Locomotora Negra big band and the Sant Jordi chorale, as well as the play “La disputa de l’ase” with original music by Marc Egea and libretto by A. Turmeda, performing with the medieval music group Ventadorn.
An enthusiastic promoter of making classical music accessible to everyone, Paula has established herself as a producer whose original shows expose non classical audiences to “operatic singing” through humor, stories and high quality vocal displays. Together with mezzo Daniela Sarmiento and pianist Montse Pujol, Paula has attracted lots of attention with the shows “Opera Obsession” and “Qué tiempos aquellos” presenting a select repertoire of duets from opera and zarzuela, respectively, where an alluring script provides the audience with a story and a narrative plot that guides it through different periods and composers, keeping it captive throughout the whole program (www.operaobsessions.blogspot.com.es).
From Mexico to Spain, Singapore, Colombia, Russia, Brazil, France, Taiwan, Serbia, Australia, Norway, Canada, England or the Azores, Paula enjoys singing in classical productions such as Villa-lobos’ Bachiana Brasileira No.5, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater Pergolesi, Beethoven’s 9th symphony or Britten’s Noye’s Fludde, as well as in multidisciplinary productions such as aerial theatre company Grupo Puja’s (grupopuja.com).
Among some of the stages that have seen Paula perform are Festival del Mil.leni of Barcelona, Festival of Cap Roig, Festival Grec of Barcelona, Festival Cervantino of Guanajuato, Pukkelpop Festival of Belgium or Festival d’Été of Québec.
In her entrepreneur facet, Paula founds Promusic Barcelona (www.promusicbcn.com) with baritone Eduard Moreno, producing and distributing their own concerts and chamber operas, specializing also in the design and musical production of high standing private events and celebrations.
Paula received her Bachelor in Music, voice degree, from the prestigious Indiana University Music School and in 2002 relocated to Barcelona for post-graduate studies at the Liceu Conservatory. Along her career she has also studied piano, cello, ballet, guitar and drama, complementing her artistic education. Now a days Paula lives in Sitges, headquarters of her intense artistic activity, and where she enjoys her other great passion: the sea.
